The story behind The Athlete Blueprint — and why it exists.
I didn't build this planner because I had it all figured out. I built it because I didn't.
When I was a college athlete, I stumbled through it. I didn't have a great mentor. I didn't have the tools or resources to truly set myself up for success — not just during my time in college, but after it. Nobody handed me a system for managing my time, building an identity beyond my sport, or preparing for the day when the jersey came off and real life started. I figured it out eventually, but it took longer than it should have, and it was harder than it needed to be.
That experience shaped everything I became as a coach.
For over a decade, I coached collegiate women's lacrosse. And from the very beginning, my goal was never just about winning on the field. Wins mattered — I'm a competitor and I coached competitors — but what I cared about most was what happened to my athletes after the final whistle. Were they ready? Did they know who they were without the sport? Could they walk into a job interview, manage their own schedule, handle adversity without a coaching staff telling them what to do next?
Every time I recruited a student athlete, I tried to impress one thing on them: how you set yourself up at the college level determines how quickly you find success after it. The habits you build, the relationships you invest in, the way you manage your time when nobody is watching — all of it compounds. The athletes who took that seriously didn't just perform better on the field. They hit the ground running after graduation. They didn't need two or three years to figure out their path. They already had one.
The Athlete Advantage
Here's what I learned watching hundreds of student athletes over the years: they have a unique advantage entering the workforce. The skills collegiate athletics demands — discipline, time management under pressure, teamwork, resilience, accountability, the ability to perform when exhausted and still show up the next day — those are exactly the skills employers are desperate for. Most 22-year-olds don't have them. Athletes do. They just don't always know how to translate them.
The Hard Part
And here's the hard part. Despite all of those skills, a lot of athletes struggle in the first few years after college. Two things hit them at the same time. First, they lose the sport — the thing that defined who they were, the community that surrounded them, the identity they'd built since they were twelve years old. Second, they lose the structure. For four years, someone told them where to be, when to be there, what to eat, when to sleep, how to train. That regimented schedule felt restrictive while they were living it, but it was also the scaffolding that held everything together. When it disappears, a lot of athletes feel lost.
Why I Built The Collegiate Athlete Blueprint
This planner gives student athletes the opportunity to set the tone for their own future — while they're still playing, while they still have the structure of a team around them, while there's still time to build the life skills that will carry them forward. It's not a productivity hack. It's not a calendar with inspirational quotes. It's a system built by a coach who watched too many talented, hardworking athletes graduate without a plan, without a sense of who they were beyond their sport, and without the tools to navigate what came next.
I built what I wish someone had given me.
